Learn to Reborn - The Basics

Wanting to learn how to make reborn dolls?

Here is my basic (and cheap!) checklist for everything you need (beginner-friendly). Plus, a link to my FREE video tutorial playlist.

You will need:

Doll Kits (please buy authentic kits to support our sculptors!) - Bountiful Baby kits are usually the cheapest you can buy (even with worldwide shipping).

Paints - I recommend air dry paints for beginners, and if you buy nothing else, buy the Ultimate Fusion Primary Colours - you will be able to paint an entire doll with just these colours. OR you can buy the Ultimate Fusion Starter Kit for more colours!

Distilled Water - for diluting the paint.

Brushes - A basic wash brush, a pouncing or blending brush, and some detail brushes (you can usually pick up a cheap set at a craft store). If you’re painting hair, Christine Woolley’s brush is unbeatable (trust me, I’ve tried so many!).

Sponges - You can buy basic cosmetic sponges (latex free!) and poke holes in them to create mottling sponges, or you can buy pre-made mottling sponges like these and these.

Texture medium - OPTIONAL but gives a lovely skin texture. I recommend Christine Woolley’s texture medium along with these texture sponges. For a cheaper alternative, try Liquitex Gel Matte Medium.

Varnish - There are so many varnishes, this is what I personally use.

Filling and Weighting - I buy my supplies from Peacock Fibres, you’ll need glass beads and polyfill stuffing. You’ll be able to purchase smaller amounts on eBay (or at doll shows usually).

You can find all the RebornsofJess recommended products from Pixie Kissed Babies Boutique here.
